We live next door to Hillcrest luxury holiday cottage accommodation and opposite Ambrose Cottage self-catering holiday cottage, and enjoy views down the Golden Valley towards Stroud.
The holiday cottages border Brimscombe and Burleigh, an area called Walls Quarry. The quarried limestone from here was of the best quality and went into the interior of both the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London and Gloucester Cathedral.
Above us is 600 acres of National Trust common land with free roaming cows, a public golf course, good for kite flying and excellent pub- restaurants with log fires too.
Below is Brimscombe Port, once known worldwide for its trade of top quality woollen cloth from the Cotswolds. Once able to moor up to 40 barges and riverboats. It is about to undergo a massive restoration program ,some canal stretches have already begun.
